School Counseling at
Wendell Middle
School
School counselors are trained to provide individual and group counseling in areas such as social/ emotional, academic, career, and crisis management.
The American School Counselor Association and Wake County Schools Identified the following focus areas for school counselors in grade six:
- To help students improve their academic and personal self-concept
- To provide study skills support to improve learning
- To help students learn how to seek information and support from faculty, staff, family, community, organizations, and peers to improve learning
- To help students recognize, accept, respect, and appreciate individual differences
- To teach students effective communication skills
- To teach decision-making skills
- To help students develop an awareness of personal abilities, skills, interests and motivations
- To help students identify how their interests, abilities, and achievement relate to achieving personal, social, and career goals
