Mr. Coby is excited to be part of the Wendell Middle School family. He has served in various teaching positions in middle and elementary schools as a classroom teacher, science specialist and technology specialist. Mr. Coby also taught staff development for teachers in Wake County and other school systems, and has served as a visiting instructor at NSCU where he taught graduate classes in Instructional Technology. Before moving to WMS, Mr. Coby served as Assistant Principal at Heritage Middle School.
Mr. Coby earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the State University of New York at Oswego, where he attended on an ROTC scholarship through Syracuse University. As a Field Artillery Officer, Mr. Coby held positions including Reconnaissance Survey Officer, Fire Direction Officer, Battery Executive Officer, and Battery Commander. He earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from NCSU and completed his Principal Licensure program at Western Carolina University.
Mr. Coby is married and has two children – a son in 8th grade and a daughter in 6th grade. His wife is an English teacher at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School. Mr. Coby and his family love theater and volunteer regularly at Theater in the Park in Raleigh. Mr. Coby teaches the middle school Sunday School class at Wake Forest United Methodist Church and is active in men’s ministry and missions. He believes anything is possible: a nine year cancer survivor, Mr. Coby has completed four iron distance triathlons and competes as a member of FCA Team Endurance.
So what was Mr. Coby’s favorite job? Stay at home Dad! He held that job for five years, getting both his children through diapers. Recently, Mr. Coby was named a finalist for Wake County Assistant Principal of the year.
